THE SWAP 2023: Students from London & Chicago collaborate with Nestlé

In 2023, THE SWAP connected students from Chicago and London in collaboration with Ravensbourne University, Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper, and Champs Mentoring.

Nestle’s KitKat came on board as the brand partner, setting a brief to the students to develop a limited edition KitKat design that would connect with a diverse audience.

Exploring the culture of both cities, and getting under the skin of the KitKat brand and what it meant to people, the creative idea was “Break Thru”, a limited edition that encouraged people to share their culture and stories with others to help them break through barriers and boundaries.

Presented to a group of senior executives at Nestle’s HQ in York, England at the end of the two week program, the packaging design and personalised influencer kit outer has since been created as a prototype.

The students’ 2-week journey was captured on film, and the resulting documentary premiered at Ravensbourne University in November 2023 to a crowd of 250 people from the education, creative and commercial worlds. You can watch the short edit below:

What is THE SWAP?

Vault49 is the creative partner of THE SWAP, an impactful exchange and cultural immersion program rooted in the world of creativity.

Bringing students from two different cities around the world together to collaborate on a creative project, THE SWAP takes place over two weeks – one week in each city. This unique program has been designed specifically to inspire and empower high school and university students from under-served and lower-income households who identify as an ethnic minority.
