For more than a century, families have trusted Betty Crocker to make every celebration feel special. But a growing portfolio had become harder to shop, product tiers blurred, and the brand had lost sight of what made people love Betty in the first place. Emotional relevance was fading, and major retailers were threatening to reduce shelf space.
Betty Crocker
Bringing the love back to Betty.
Using Street Level Insights® we spoke with consumers and explored decades of Betty’s history in the General Mills archives. From wartime letters and cookbooks to generations of family rituals, one truth emerged: people may not remember what they baked, but they do remember who they baked it for and how it made them feel. That insight unlocked the creative idea: Bake Someone Happy.
We made Betty easier to love and easier to shop. The portfolio was reorganized around the different ways people bake for others, creating a clearer, more intuitive system. We preserved the spoon, frame, red, and logo script to protect recognition and heritage. More appetizing photography, a custom typeface inspired by Betty’s handwriting, and a warm, reassuring voice brought personality and humanity to every pack.
Betty is back, and Bettier than ever! Outstanding BASES scores for the brand refresh turned retailer hesitation into renewed confidence. Big-box retailers that had planned to reduce Betty’s shelf footprint recommitted to the brand and allocated even more space.
